Tax records in 1795 show William Gaines 1 male over 21, 2 horses, 6 cattle
and 50 acrds. He also appears on the 1796, 1797 and 1801 lists. Death date

50 acres of land to the 'heirs of Nelly Pierce, deceased'. Heirs named were
Madison, John Joseph, James and Preston.(Preston was Grace and Dee's
father-according to Gerald Pierce.) She was buried at the family

home with his parents. In 1860 Monroe County census shows him at age 29,

In a nearby household of William is Dulcenia Pearce. William and Dulcenia
sold land to R Moberly in June 1861. Mary Alice couldn't find any listing
of tombstones or probate records for William Pearce/Pierce. He did own land
in Monroe co in 1876, according to map of that time. Was Lt in CSA during
civil War according to Gerald Pierce. He was buried at Hickory Grove,
Madison, Mo. 509.

Alice's GEDCOM: His death certificate gives date and place of birth as
Kentucky and name of parents. 1850 Missouri Census confirms age and
birthplace. 1860 Missouri Census, Calloway Co shows John and Sarah with 3
yr old James W and 1 year old Mary Ella. Joseph F, age 22, John's brother,
was living with them. 1880 Missouri Census confirms date/place of birth.
In Hattie mann Family History: JC Pierce purchased land south of Fulton in
Calloway Co. Jan 23, 1867, later selling it to buy land norht of Auxvasse
in Feb 1884. He kept this land until his retirement in 1909, at which time
he sold a portion of the land to his son, John Williard Pierce. The
remainder went into his estate. He was a farmer. He and his wife celebrated
their 64th wedding aniversary. Buried at Grand Praire Baptist Cemetery
located 1 mile NW of Auxvasse, beside Sarah J, his wife and James W and

purchased some equipment and livestock at sale of Williams's estate in 1864
and a Robert is named along with Wiliam Madison, John Calvin and Franklin
Pierce in the 1876 lawsuit regarding heirs of Thomas Gaines. Lewis co. is

cemetery because Nancy's parents had southern sympathies and the Eaton's
were for the North. However, the Eaton's did take Nannie and raise her as
Cosby and Mary Jane Dickerson had moved to Oregon in 1866 just before
Nannie was born. Nancy was buried on a farm about a half mile from the
Eaton cemetery. *It appears as if Nancy Jane Dickerson probably died of
