HOLLIDAY C-2 SCHOOL DISTRICT TECHNOLOGY
Technology Rationale
In order to live, learn, and work successfully in our increasingly complex and information rich society, students must be taught to use technology effectively.  Within a sound educational setting, technology can enable students to become capable information technology users, analyzers, and evaluators.  Students will become effective probelm solvers and decision-makers.  Technology will enable students to be creative and effective users of productivity tools, as well as communicators, collaborators, publishers, and producers.  Holliday C-2 students would be provided instruction and opportunitites to become informed, responsible, and contributing citizens using technology designed to carry them into the 21st century.

TECHNOLOGY DESCRIPTION

Within the various curriculum areas, technology skills will be developed by coordinated activities that support learning throughout a student's education.  These skills are to be introduced, reinforced, and finally mastered, and thus, integrated into an individual's personal learning and social framework.  Students will have opportunities to develop technology skills that support learning, personal productivity, decision-making, and daily life.

TECHNOLOGY STANDARDS
BASIC OPERATIONS AND CONCEPTS
Students demonstrate a sound understanding of the operations of
technology systems and are proficient in the use of technology
SOCIAL, ETHICAL, AND HUMAN ISSUES
Students understand the ethical, cultural, and societal issues related to technology.  They practice responsible use of technology ststems, information, and software.  They develop positive attitudes toward technology uses that support lifelong learning, collabortion, personal pursuits, and productivity.


TECHNOLOGY PRODUCTIVITY TOOLS
Students use productivity tools to collaborate in constructing technology-enhanced models, preparing publications, and producing other creative works.

TECHNOLOGY COMMUNICATION TOOLS
Students use telecommunications to collaborate, publish, and interact with peers, experts, and other audiences.  They use a variety of media and formats to communicate information and ideas effectively to multiple audiences.


TECHNOLOGY RESEARCH TOOLS
Students use technology to locate, evaluate, and collect information from a variety of sources.  They use technology to process data and report results.  They evaluate and select new information resources and technological innovations based on the appropriateness to specific tasks.
TECHNOLOGY PROBLEM-SOLVING AND DECISION-MAKING TOOLS
Students use technology resources for solving problems and making informed decisions and employ technology in the develeopment of strategies for solving problems in the real world.


Kindergarden - 2nd Grade

Students will be able to identify computer components.
Demonstrate the basic care of the computer system.
Begin to practice using appropriate hand positions.
Students will learn to use word processing for writing.
Studnets will use PowerPoint for creating presentations.
Students will be introduced to using the Internet.
Students use webquests to learn researching.
Students are given assignments to learn word processing tools, such as drawing tools..
Third - Fifth Grade

Students will be introduced to keyboarding.
Students will demonstrate  basic computer care.
Students will demonstrate use the features of word processing to format a page.
Students will create tables, graphs and integrate them into porjects.
Students will research specific Interent addresses and demonstate research skills
Students will use multimedia tools to produce presentations.
Students will learn be introduced to Internet Satety, through I- Safe and NetSmartz.
Sixth - Eighth Grade
Students will apply proper keyboarding skills.
Students will learn advanced word processing.
Students will create multimedia presentations.
Students will create tables, graphs and integrate them into porjects.
Students will use the Interent addresses and demonstate research skills.
Students will use word processing to create life skills, such as creating
        labels, bussiness cards and etc.
Students will be introduced to Internet Safety, through I-Safe.
