Dear Parents, Students, Staff, and Patrons,

The Holliday C-2 School is proud to announce that the students have met our expectations and have met all 7 out of 7 areas on the Annual Performance Report.  This report determines the Distinction in Performance Award each year.  The Holliday C-2 School will be receiving that award again this year.  YEAH!!!!  The students scored well on the MAP tests (grades 3-8) in Communication Arts and Math.  The students in grades 6-8 scored in the High 1 area in both Communication Arts and Math. If you see one of the teachers, please feel free to congratulate them on the outstanding job they have done to achieve this award as well as the students.

The end of the first quarter is October 17th and the Parent Teacher Conferences are on October 23rd from 1:00 to 5:00.  It is important that all parents and teachers make a special effort to communicate with each other and make sure that every child is doing their very best.  If you feel that your child is not reaching his or her potential, talk with the teacher about tutoring.  It is offered by the teachers to help students do better.  Each child is unique and may require additional help sometime during their school career.

Students have really enjoyed the hockey goals that the PTO purchased earlier this year.  The students are using them for most every recess and at PE time, too.  I hope the PTO knows how much those have been used and appreciated.

A special effort has been made to up-date and fix the website for the school at www.mcmsys.com/~holliday.  If you haven’t been on the website in the last month, please go out and take a look around.  Mrs. Mary Jane Havens and the other teachers have been busy trying to get all of the areas of the website up to date.

A special effort has been made to make sure that additional information about the school be sent to the local papers, the Monroe County Appeal and the Moberly Monitor Index.  I hope that you have noticed the nice pictures and articles that have been published in the paper for the school.  We appreciate all of the positive publicity.

There are openings on the Advisory Council for parents who would like to make a difference in the school.  The meetings are held one hour before the School Board meetings and discuss a variety of issues and make plans for the school.  Anyone who would like to serve on the Advisory Council should contact Carol Hall at the school.

The Holliday C-2 Preschool has 20 children enrolled this fall.  The cost of the preschool is no tuition, only lunch costs.  All parents are encouraged to have their children come all day, every day.  Of course, we realize this may not fit into everyone’s schedules.  We know that exposure to educational activities, socialization with other kids, and screening for problems are ways to increase student achievement throughout their school years.  Early childhood education may make the most difference for students.   Money spent for early education does more good than money spent to remediate problems.  This has been supported by research.

Respectfully yours,

Carol Hall, Supt.
